Friends of St. Andrew’s Kirk, Glass

Becoming a ‘Friend of St Andrews Kirk’

St Andrews Kirk has played a key role in the spiritual, celebratory and ceremonial aspects of life in Glass since 1574. The building (operating as a charity since 2021) shares its location with the graveyard owned by Aberdeenshire Council. The charity is managed by four volunteer trustees – Ted Andrews, Marc Day, Jack Ingleby, and Bob Yuill.

The trustees now wish to cement the long term future of the church. The current fixed costs are £4k per year (mainly insurance). We wish to diversity the day-to-day running costs from being solely reliant on collections at services, donations, and concerts. We need this support in order to show that the annual running costs can be sustained which in turn allow us to apply for capital funding from windfarms or other institutions for any structural works. We must diversify financial support and we would seek to do this with help from the ‘Friends of St Andrews Kirk’.

An annual donation of £50 would make a significant difference but would welcome a larger amount. In turn our ‘friends’ will be assured they play a central role in keeping our church open, accessible and free to visit. 100% of any donation goes directly to support the day-to-day upkeep of the church, and in addition we will claim 25% as gift aid on your behalf. The trustees will acknowledge our friends at the entrance to the church, unless they wish to remain anonymous.

In the last three years the Schedule 2 listed building has benefitted from over £40k of building maintenance work funded by a range of generous corporate contributors. We have modern toilet facilities, safe electrics, and two of the stained glass windows are now refurbished. The trustees are very proactive to keep the building in excellent condition, with a future plan of proactive work and day-to-day upkeep.

To make a regular payment to the charity, it will be necessary to create a standing order. The details you will need are as follows:

Account name: St. Andrew’s Church, Glass

Sort code: 82-40-00

This is best done either by mobile or online banking and is a simple procedure. Paper forms are available from individual banks and vary from bank to bank.
