St. Andrew’s Kirk, Glass
Trust Members
Minutes of Meeting No. 12, 15th August 2024
at Glebe House and Glass Kirk
Present:
Ted Andrews (EAA)
Marc Day (MBD)
Jack Ingleby (JI)
Bob Yuill (BY)
The minutes of the 11th meeting held on 19th February 2024 were approved.
Matters arising:
The Fun Run in memory of Margo Wordie (trustee) was held on 21st July and was very successful. Resultant funds have yet to be allocated.
BY reported that he was making some progress with the connection between Glass and the city of Chicago (for potential fund raising), but needed further information and items of use were found in the archive material held in the church.
EAA presented the treasurer’s report together with a cash flow forecast for the next 3 months. This forecast indicates that the trust is able to meet its commitments for the period. The only outstanding invoice is for the scaffolding used for window repairs and the need to budget for insurance in January 2025.
The changeover of electrical suppliers from SSE to EDF is complete and appears to be as predicted (lowering of standing charge). Readings still have to be given to EDF online.
The contract for supply with EDF expires on 16th January 2026 with a notice date of 17th December 2025. This information is needed should the trustees decide to change the suppliers for any reason.
The changes to the vestry are complete with the installation of a baby changing unit. The application for a completion certificate has been delayed by a longer than expected issuing of fire and electrical safety certificates. However, these are now at hand and the certificate will be applied for.
The refurbishment of the plain glass windows at the rear of the church are now complete and the work (except for the scaffolding) has been invoiced and paid. This work was not part of the planning application so does not affect the completion certificate.
Further work needed on the structure of the building was discussed together with the difficulty of obtaining quotations for refurbishing paintwork from contractors, who seem to have more work than they can handle.
The subject of solar panels and the problems associated with listed building consent was raised and it was agreed that further research was needed.
The church is currently holding many books and prints etc. donated by various parties and it has been the intention to hold an open day(s) to sell these items to raise funds. It was suggested that residents of Glass be approached to see if refreshments could be provided for the sale. Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October were proposed.
Any Other Business:
BY raised the possibility of contacting the Church of Scotland to ask if it is possible for a minister to be provided, perhaps twice a year, to take communion in the church
for those residents of Glass who wish to receive it. This, particularly as the Church of Scotland no longer has any financial upkeep costs or responsibility for Glass Kirk.
It was agreed that the next meeting should be held when progress had been made.
There being no further business, the meeting was closed and the trustees moved to the church.
