Objectives and activities

The aims of the charity St. Andrew’s Kirk, Glass are:

To permanently preserve the building known as Glass Parish Church as a church accessible by the public.

To advance arts, heritage, culture, or science by making the building accessible to the public for such use.

To advance community development.

This year saw the completion and acceptance by the planning authority of the creation of the toilet and kitchen area and the car park.

Two of the leaded windows were taken out, refurbished and replaced. Monitoring of the stained-glass windows was completed and the experts decided that no action was required.

Repairs to part of the drainage system were carried out.

A combined open day and book and print sale was held in October, with refreshments kindly supplied by local volunteers. This was very successful, and the new facilities were well used.

The church benefited from proceeds of a community run held in memory of the former trustee Margo Wordie.

Glass Primary School held a Christmas Concert and raised a collection for the church.

Two funerals of local people were held in the church.

Financial review

The charity is mindful of the fact that certain unavoidable, ongoing costs need to be prepared for. These include insurance (a large sum given that we are dealing with a listed building open to the public) and electricity costs, both standing and consumer costs.

It is therefore our intention to keep a reserve to cover these items.

The following tables show the various categories for income and expenditure and amounts.

Future plans

With the completion of the toilet and kitchen facility it is possible to make the building more easily available for public use and we are hoping to encourage more outside use.

A rolling programme of repairs and refurbishment is planned.
